Summary picture:
The Pacific Fleet currently fields around 21 active submarines, most of them nuclear-powered, with a further five undergoing repairs and upgrades. (UNITED24 Media) The modern Borei-A SSBNs and the Yasen-M cruise missile boats are its sharpest teeth. The Oscar II fleet is a mixed picture — two are operational, one is in trials after refit, one is deep in refit, and one is in reserve. The Akula attack boats assigned to the Pacific are largely in various stages of refit rather than operational. The six new Improved Kilo diesel-electrics are the most consistently active conventional submarines, though two are still transiting/deployed in the Baltic en route.
Note that a further Yasen-M boat, Perm (K-572), is destined for the Pacific Fleet and was on sea trials in the Northern Fleet operational area as of mid-2025 Wikipedia — expected to join in 2026.
